Our primary stakeholders are the local communities and in particular, children, youth and their families living in poor urban communities in and around the capital City Kampala. By placing a heavy emphasis on community involvement at all levels of the program, and through capacity building activities, we develop a sense of community ownership and responsibility. In the future, management of the preschools will be entrusted to local management committees, elected by the community. The overall recurrent costs of program activities are relatively low and will be sustainable through locally generated support, given an improvement in the national economy.
We collaboration with public and private providers of Early childhood interventions, health and nutrition services and resources, child and youth protection programs and systems, youth education and empowerment platforms as part of our program design.
In the last one year, Sunshine Urban Foundation has built the base to channeled long-term aid through financial sponsorships to poor vulnerable children and youth. The assistance will be provided in collaboration with local systems and leaders in a way that is in keeping with the traditional practices of caring for vulnerable children and youth within the community.
The Sunshine Urban Foundation volunteer program is an addition and complimentary effort to the programs that have been offered to the communities we have been working with during the past year. The aim of the volunteer program is two pronged:
- To give people from around the world the opportunity to work on community initiated projects in developing countries, enabling people to make a difference to the lives of urban children, youth and their families.
- To raise funds to support the work carried out primarily through the health and nutrition, child development, protection and skills development programs
The poor urban children and youth are in greater need now than ever before, especially the youngest and most vulnerable of them. Our expanded health and nutrition, child development, protection, skills development programs are ready to go at all levels and we are prepared to deliver quality programs.
We continue to encourage and welcome individual donors whose sponsorship will go directly into the sponsorship program. Our financial campaign includes individuals, businesses and organizations who share our vision for strong and vibrant children and youth, growing to become contributing members of their communities, their country, and the world.
Our Future Direction:
To demonstrate accountability to the communities we serve, our funders and our sponsors with improved ability to develop good relationships with all levels of community and government in Uganda and improved systems and support structures in order to become increasingly effective. We are ready to step up to the challenge that we have set for ourselves. We are ready to expand our urban program tenfold. A kinder political climate in Uganda will give us the opportunity to provide the urban poor children and youth of Uganda the chance to enjoy a truly delightful life.
